Back round story, it was early saturday morning and I was teaching a guardin class. For those of you who dont' know what a guardin class is, its when the a child who is between the ages of six months and 5 years of age who get in the water with their parents/ guardin. This was a small class only four parents and tot combo's, they really wanted to do thier own thing while I want to run the class as i always do. By songs, games, and a little bit of swimming skills. This one father was trying to hard to make his little two-yearold swim.
Father: we had a deal remember
Girl: But i don't let go
Father: yes just do it we had a deal
Girl: i'm scared daddy
Father: your good, Just do as your sister is doing
This went on for the whole thirty minute lesson, in which time they didn't want to have anything to do with me and the rest of the class. What i saw in the father was that he wanted his daughter to be able to swim right now as if she did he wouldn't have to be there anymore or even be in the water. The way he kept saying " we had a deal" when his daughter was freaking out, showed that he was just desperst and had know idea how to take a step back and let this little girl be A LITTLE GIRL! It really just astounds me how he acted because when the little girl started crying he coverd her mouth. It seem like he was emberrised by what she was doing but, too occupied with her to noticed what his actions were saying about his character.

I agree with you. Sometimes you just have to let kids do things at their own time, especially early on. That guy was probably asking for too much, but a lot of parents do. It's probably more for his ego as a parent (like having your daughter be able to swim at two is such a huge deal), than for what she actually wanted.
